The slow cooker is the ideal way to cook applesauce effortlessly.  Vary the apple variety according to the season's best buys.  For a special treat, serve the warm applesauce over vanilla ice cream and drizzle a little jarred caramel sauce on top.
Ingredients
3 1/2 pounds Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Steps
1.  In a 3 1/2 quart electric slow cooker, toss together the apples, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
2.  Cover and cook on the high heat setting 3 hours, or until the apples are very tender.  Mash up the apples with a potato masher.  Stir in the cinnamon.  Serve warm, at room temperature, or cold.
